10 ADC seats to go to polls on Oct 24

Imphal, September 20 2011:
Elections for 10 ADC constituencies of Senapati and ADC Ukhrul where elections could not be held earlier, would be held on October 24.Notification for the ADC elections would be issued on September 22 .
Speaking to media persons in her office chamber today, State Election Commission Secretary Th Chitra said that the Hills Department would issue the necessary notification on September 22 after which the State Election Commission would announce the election schedule on the same day.
Intending candidates may file their nomination papers to relevant ROs till September 29 .
Scrutiny would be held on October 1 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination forms is October 3 .
Polling for the left out ADC constituencies would be held on October 24 from 8 am to 4 pm.
Re-poll would be held on October 27, if any such necessity arises.
Counting of votes would be done on October 31 before winding up the election process on November 5, Chitra said.
Notably, elections for 144 ADC seats were held in two phases on May 26 and June 2 last year.
But polling for 10 ADC constituencies could not be conducted due to several reasons.
For the 10 left out constituencies scheduled to go to polls on October 24, there would be 67 polling stations where 50,960 voters are expected to cast their votes.
Altogether 335 polling personnel would be detailed for duty while another 35 personnel would be keep in reserve.
The ADC constituencies which would go to polls in October are Thungam Khullen, Punanamei, Song Song, Maram, Lairouching, Chawainamei Khullen, Tadubi and Phaibung Khullen in Senapati district.
For Ukhrul district, Chingai and Shangshak would go to polls on the same day.
Senapati DC and Ukhrul DC would act as District Election Officers whereas SDOs/SDCs of Paomata, Tadubi, Purul, Chingai and Ukhrul would serve as ROs and AROs.
Incidentally, the United Naga Council (UNC) has been demanding the State Government to declare the last year's ADC elections as null and void.
