Imphal, September 20 2011:
In connection with the controversial death of Lalitabi, a joint action committee has been constituted with the basic objective of seeking justice.
Secretary of the newly constituted JAC Wangkheimayum Gopendro, while speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this evening, alleged that the young died under suspicious circumstances after she was subjected to severe harassment by her own husband and parents-in-law.
The JAC was constituted after a public meeting at Khundrakpam, the native village of late Lalitabi.
Alleging that Loushigam (N) Mongjam (O) Lalitabi alias Naobi (21) w/o Chitaranjan was hung up with a rope after torturing and killing her by her husband and in-laws in the night of September 18, the JAC urged the Government to book culprits and award them exemplary punishment.
The public meeting held at Khundrakpam decided to appeal to the residents of Langol Housing Complex, local clubs of Thangmeiband Polem Leikai, Meira Paibi organisations and Lamphel police for cooperation in bringing the culprits to book.
Late Lalitabi's wife Chitaranjan is a Rifleman in 6th IRB.
Both Chitaranjan and his parents, Mongjam Tejmani and Mongjam (O) Sorojini alias Malaya were involved in the murder of Lalitabi, the JAC alleged.
The JAC has also decided to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister with an appeal to bring justice at the earliest.
However, if the Government fails to book the culprits without delay, all sorts of agitation would launched, Gopendro said .
