Chief Secretary, Union Cabinet Secy discuss Jiri road

Chief Secretary DS Poonia called on the Union Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth and discussed the vexing issue of transporting essential commodities along Imphal-Jiribam route.
On the other hand, the Union Home Ministry has sanctioned one CRPF battalion as security for the Jiribam-Imphal railway work.
An official source informed that Poonia and Ajit Kumar Seth discussed the scarcity of essential commodities in Manipur due to the prolonged blockades on National Highways leading to Imphal.
The Union Cabinet Secretary also held another meeting with the State CAF&PD Commissioner and the Director on the measures taken up by the Government through video conferencing.
The State officials informed the Union Cabinet Secretary that goods are being transported along Imphal-Jiribam route with security escorts while the feasibility of transporting goods along Ukhrul-Jessami road is being looked into.

For this, a team comprising of BRO and PWD officials has been constituted to inspect Jessami-Ukhrul-Imphal road for the stated purpose.
Meanwhile, in accordance with the decision of the joint meeting held yesterday with the Chief Minister in the chair, due directive has been issued to all transporters not to carry loads heavier than 24 tonnes (inclusive of the vehicle's weight) in view of the weak Makru and Barak bridges, informed the source.
Taking serious note of shortage of rice being faced by the State, the Government has asked the FCI to ship in 400 truck loads of rice per trip as against the present practice of 150 trucks per trip.
In addition, the FCI authority has been directed to ship in 20 truck loads each of potato and onion and 10 truck loads of dal in every trip without fail.
Potato is presently sold at the rate of Rs 40 to Rs 50 per Kg while the price of onion has shot up to around Rs 80 per Kg.
On the other hand, the Chief Secretary and the Union Home Secretary held a meeting this morning and deliberated on the prevailing crisis in Manipur.
During the meeting, the Union Home Secretary agreed to provide another battalion of CRPF for the Jir-Imphal railway work.
Incidentally, the Home Minister recently mooted replacing CRPF with CISF as for the railway work.
