Van driver shot dead, road blocked in protest

Imphal, August 18 2013:
A van driver was found shot dead at Narankonjil Palli along the bank of Chandranadi canal under Wangoi police station in Imphal West district at around 1.40 pm today.
According to information culled from the spot, a Maruti van and a Hyundai i-20 car were seen coming on Narankonjil Palli from the direction of Chajing.
The two vehicles stopped at one spot at a time and soon after 4/5 rounds of shots were heard.
On being inspected by some local people, a man was found shot on the head on the rear seat of the van.
The next moment, all the people who came in the car and the van hurried away together in the i-20 car.

The deceased has been identified as Okram Gyanendro alias Aton (35) s/o Achou of Singjamei Okram Leikai.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
He was operating a van service on Imphal-Moreh route and it was inside his own van that he was found shot dead.
He arrived at Imphal from Moreh last night and left home to deliver the goods he brought.
Experts of Forensic Science Laboratory investigated the murder site before the corpse was picked up by police and deposited it at RIMS mortuary.
Meanwhile, decrying the murder of Gyanendro, some people blocked NH-2 at Singjamei Okram Leikai this evening.
