Trade Unions announce course of agitation

Putting forward a charter of demands to the Government for the welfare of workers, the trade unions across the country would launch series of agitation starting with a rally on September 25 next.
Addressing media persons at Irawat Bhavan here today, Chairman of the Coordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur L Sotinkumar said that the National Convention of Workers was held on August 6 in New Delhi.
The representatives of 11 central trade unions, who attended the convention, resolved to launch a series of agitation to press the Government for implementation of their demands for minimum wage of Rs.10,000 per month, universal social security benefits for all workers, pension scheme, equal benefits between regular and contractual workers, monitoring price rise, etc.
As per the resolution, a rally along with hunger strike would be held on September 25 all over the country and a protest demonstration would be held at Parliament House on December 12, he said.
The trade unions of the State would also submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India urging him for the establishment of National Highway Protection Force, repairing of NH-37 and handing over of NH-37 road development works to Military Engineering Department if BRO is found incompetent, Sotinkumar noted.
