In the incident 11 Manipuri students were injured severely.
Again another clash occured on August 10.There are around 46 Manipuri students studying in the Tripura University.
As they got panicked due to the clashes, they left their hostel and fled to Protika Pamolia which is an all Meitei inhibited village near the University.
The villagers received the students well and took good care of them, the parents added.
They went on to say that when the news was heard, two representatives of the parents along with IG Intelligence, Govt of Manipur KT Vaiphei and Secretary General of North East Student Organisation (NESO) S Prakash went to Tripura University on August 12, and met the University's Vice Chancellor Prof Ajay Pathak on the same day and discussed about the incident.
As no solution was brought on the day's discussion, NESO along with Tripura Students Federation held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor on August 13, in which the students condemned the incident and charged that it ocurred as the warden and registrar of the University were unfit, the parents continued.
They further said, the Vice Chancellor assured that such incident will never happen again.
Manipur Government then sent three persons led by Additional Secretary Higher Education Kh Ragumani to Tripura University on August 13, and talked with the Vice Chancellor.
Then an agreement was brought among all including the parents on August 14 and subsequently the students went back to the hostel.
The agreements included a police packet of 12 security personnel should be kept for a month at the University to ensure peace and tranquility in the hostel, and allow extension of the packet as and when required.
The Vice Chancellor made assurance that such incident will not repeat in the future, and that the strength of private security will be increased, the parents informed.
During the press conference, Secretary General of NESO S Prakash told journalists that the incident occured as there is inadequate security in the Tripura University and the warden and registrar were weak.
He urged to strengthen the security of the University, and change the warden and the registrar.
If such incident occur again then the Vice Chancellor should hold responsibility, and no one should report false news to the media.
