Imphal, December 16 2011:
Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network (MWGSN), an NGO run by Binalakshmi Nepram, has conferred with the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year Award 2011 in Public Service category at New Delhi on Friday.
The win was in recognition of the Network's outstanding work in helping the women of Manipur, who undergo trauma because of violence in the conflict-hit State.
MWGSN vied with Anna Hazare, Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP), noted lawyer Subramanian Swamy and Vinod Rai for the prestigious award to be declared in a grand finale ceremony on December 24 at 9.30 pm.
A teary eyed Binalakshmi Nepram on receiving the award said "When I came to Delhi people called me 'chinki', they asked me where are you from, Thailand or Nepal? This award is a testimony that some Indians are different from the ones living in Delhi and Bombay.
There are lot of arms and blood-shed there but we won't get scared, we will move on.
Our determination to get peace is more than theirs for bloodshed,".
