The 41st Foundation Day of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was celebrated today at RIMS Jubilee Hall.
The celebration programme was graced by Dr Jagdish Prasad, DG of Health Services, Government of India; MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, who is also a former Director of RIMS and former Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Dr A Dwijamani as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Jagdish Prasad said RIMS is counted as one among the best institutes of North East India.
He stated that the achievement of RIMS, despite all odds, deserve appreciation.
Dr Prasad said all faculties of the Institute need to cooperate with the Director for the further development of RIMS while urging all the Heads of Departments to work in tandem with the Director.

Stating that RIMS has the capacity to be at par with top medical institutes of the country, DG of Health, Dr Jagdish Prasad also assured all possible assistance from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare towards further development of the institute.
Dr Ng Bijoy said the opening of a Dental College and a Nursing College at RIMS is a dream come true for the people of the State.
He stressed on the need to open Trauma Centre, Modular Operation Theatre, Undergraduate Study, and to address the infrastructural loopholes of RIMS.
Traditional dances of various communities of the North East were showcased by RIMS students to mark the occasion apart from releasing the institute's newsletter.
Various Heads of Department attended the celebration programme.
Meanwhile, a ladies hostel with 22 rooms was inaugurated today by Dr Jagdish Prasad, DG of Health Services, Government of India in RIMS campus.
The rooms are said to accommodate 44 girl students comfortably, said a statement issued by RIMS authority.
Dr Prasad appreciated the performance of RIMS authority in completing the construction works at such a short duration while adding that the hostel would go a long way in solving the accommodation problem of the students.
Prof S Sekharjit announced that the construction of other hostels would be completed within a short span of time.
Prof Damayanti, HoD Anatomy dept said that hostellers have been facing flooding during rainy days.
She also stated that another hostel is coming up shortly.
Dr Prasad and others have advised the students not to go to press since most of the trifle matters could be straightened out in the office of the Director.
They also warned that the students would find that they have to face the music for taking this step by habitually going to the press, the statement said.
