MLA exhorts tribal students to pursue science subjects

Noting that only few tribal students opt for science subjects and mathematics, MLA T Manga Vaiphei has prevailed upon the tribal students that time has come for them to change their attitude.
speaking as the chief guest at the Freshers' Meet 2012 function of DM College of Science held today at Tribal Research institute, Chingmeirong, Manga Vaiphei reminded that with rapid advancement being made in science and technology and modern gadgets becoming a daily necessity imbibing scientific knowledge and temperament have become inevitable.
Expressing satisfaction that the present generation of tribal students are showing keenness in pursuing science and mathematics, he also pointed out that excelling in science subjects is an important factor for a student to compete with the best in the world.
In his address, Chingai AC MLA MK Preshow Shimray noted that education system in the hill areas is lagging behind and cited large number of students from the hill areas preferring to study at Imphal and other cities as an example for the education system in the hill districts needing urgent attention and pro-active action.
Pledging his personal effort and contribution in the development of education in the hill areas, he also stressed on the need to produce a number of scientists from amongst the tribal community.
As a part of the event, student troupes presented a variety of traditional cultural items.
DM Science Principal P Ranabir Singh was also present at the occasion.
