Imphal, July 10 2013:
Police commandos today raided a Tambola gambling venue at a village in Thoubal district and rescued a dog, which was put as the raffle's top prize (housefull) by the organizers.
The cops also arrested the man who organised the Tambola even as People for Animal (PFA) Thoubal has taken up steps to handover the dog to its owner.
"As told by the police, accused T Shyam Singh (45) of Tekcham Mayai Leikai has been booked under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act," said PFA Thoubal managing trustee L Biswajeet Meitei.
Organizers of the Tambola commonly known as 'Housie' bought the pet animal, a local breed, at Rs 2800 from a man on Tuesday and they launched street publicity for the housie at Tekcham village on today morning, Biswajeet said.

The organisers, who collected Rs 50 for a ticket from the locals, put the dog as the Housie's houseful prize and Rs 500 each for first line, second line, third line and star.
After buying the dog, the organizers put it inside a sack for several hours before it was chained and displayed before the crowd as the houseful prize, Biswajeet said while strongly condemning the act.
It is learnt that the Housie organizers did not obtain permission to use loudspeakers from the authorities for holding the Housie as a result of which the accused will face another penalty.
" The moment we heard about the Housie being held, we immediately informed the matter to the police after which two teams of Thoubal police commandos rushed to the gambling venue inside a hall at Tekcham village where the Tambola was underway in full swing in the evening," Biswajeet said.
Besides rescuing the dog, the commandos also pulled up Shyam and confiscated the microphone used in the Housie.
PFA Thoubal and the police will hand over the dog to its owner with a rider to look after it with love and care.
"We will record the overall status report of the dog on monthly basis from the owner to ensure he will not sell and treat it badly," Biswajeet said while expressing gratitude to Thoubal police for their timely action.
