Fish Farmers' Day organised

Directorate of Fisheries organised the 13th Fish Farmers' Day at its Lamphelpat complex today.
Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Md Abdul Nasir and Fisheries Commissioner Y Jugindro were the chief guest and president of the function respectively.
Speaking at the function, Abdul Nasir stressed on the need to enhance fish production in view of the high consumption of fish in Manipur.
Saying that 99 percent of the State population consume fish, the Minister assured that best possible effort would be put in to enhance fish production.
Prizes for the Fish Fair cum Fish Crop Competition 2012 held on November 7 last year were also distributed in today's function.
N Kumar of Kumbi, who produced 4832 kg of fish under the sponsorship of DFO Bishnupur, bagged first position in the competition.
He was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 60,000 .
Kh Inaocha of Wabagai Thingel and Salam Dhaballo of Nongmaikhong who won second and third prizes were rewarded with Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.
Apart from two fish farmers who produced highest quantity of indigenous fishes, 25 other fish farmers were also given consolation prizes.
Bishnupur district produced highest quantity of fish among valley districts while Ukhrul was the highest producer among the hill districts.
CEO/FFDA Bishnupur M Lokendro and DFO Ukhrul L Kumar were rewarded with Rs 10,000 each for achieving the feat.
