Myanmar told to wipe out NE UG camps: Union Home Minister

During the 20th Sectoral Level (Joint Working Group) Meeting between Myanmar and India held at Bagan, Myanmar from 19-20 June, 2013, the Indian side raised its concerns about the camps available to the Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) in Myanmar and are responsible for sustaining insurgency in North East and urged the Myanmar side not to allow operations by insurgent groups along the Indo-Myanmar border, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has stated.
Informing media persons in this regard at New Delhi today, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde stated that since the impact of insurgency received by the people of North East is the sole responsibility of Myanmar, the Myanmar government has been told to drive out all UG camps of the NE from their soil.
Both sides agreed to cooperate to prevent cross border movement of armed groups, share information on seizure of arms and check arms smuggling/drug trafficking.
He further informed that the border management issues including constructions along the Indian-Myanmar Border, setting up of the intermediary additional pillars, human trafficking and poaching by Myanmar fishermen in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and trafficking of wild life parts were also discussed during the Sectoral Level Meeting.
The Union Home Minister also stated that the present situation of the internal security of the country was discussed during the conference of the CMs which was held on June 5 last.
Apart from this, police modernization of different States; professionalization of the process of investigations; strengthening of intelligence wing; border management; strengthening of water ways; reformation of prisons and to strengthen the programmes taken up against crimes committed to women and children, were also discussed during the meeting, he told mediapersons.
