Ukhrul, July 10 2013:
The Ukhrul district hospital continues to reel under the spell of infrastructure and manpower shortages in spite of constant pressure from various civil organisations and District administration to keep the hospital ready to combat pandemic, endemic and other diseases prone to the district.
Dr Ng Raikhan, Chief Medical Officer of Ukhrul while briefing media persons today said that presently ultra sound machine and ECG have been installed in the hospital.
However, the machines lie unused due to shortage of staff.
No doctors could not be spared for short term course training in application of the machines, the CMO said.
The Manipur State Health Service dept has sanctioned 170 MOs of which 32 regular MOs from allopathic and AYUSH were working in the district.
14 nurses were engaged regularly in the hospital but no matron has been posted so far.
Three nurses from the district are extending their service voluntarily at their own expense, Dr Raikhan said.
Shortage of specialist doctors caused much inconvenience in the hospital, he said while adding only few departments have specialist doctors.
Dr Yaiyai Khan, MD (Gynae) was supposed to join in June but he fails to turn up till date.
The insufficient hospital infrastructures, de-commissioning of Staff quarters is urgently needed for the smooth functioning of the hospital, the CMO said.
When enquired about setting up of a Nursing College at Hungpung and installation of Incinerator in front of the hospital, the CMO said that land acquisition for the two projects has already been completed now.
Pointing out that construction of the two projects is underway, Dr Ng Raikhan also conveyed his wish that the Medical dept be consulted while preparing the blue print for the Nursing College.
The problems faced by the hospital were apprised to the District Administration and other high level team from the Centre and State.
The CMO further highlighted the problem relating to land encroachment from the villagers which according to him needs immediate fencing and demarcation of boundary before the land goes to other private individual who forcefully intruded into the land.
