MASTEC's contact programme still on

The 10-day long contact programme for talented SC & ST girls school students organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) which began on March 1 at the training hall of Art and Culture building, Palace Compound is continuing in full swing.
Altogether, 30 participants including six guide teachers from four districts such as Senapati district, Ukhrul district, Thoubal district, Imphal West, etc are attending the programme which is being catalysed and supported by National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Dept of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India, New Delhi.
The activities of the programme included visiting various laboratories and meet the scientists, science popular lecture cum, demonstration, face to face with distinguished scientists, science elocution, hands on projects, etc.
So far, the participants have visited the laboratory of DOEAAC Centre, Government of India at Akampat, Imphal and studied internet browsing, creation of e-mail ID and e-mailing to others, IT security, etc using the facilities available at DOEACC centre and interacted with scientists of DOEACC Centre.
The participants have also visited various other laboratories including Tissue Culture laboratory of Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
During the visit, Dr U Chaoba Singh and Dr RK Tombisana Devi of CAU demonstrated on Rose budding and mushroom cultivation respectively and interacted with the participants.
In addition, the participants have also visited the laboratories of Physics, Chemistry and Seismological Observatory of Earth Sciences Department, Manipur University and interacted with the scientists of the fields concerned there.
Furthermore, they visited the laboratory of the Regional TASAR Research Station at Mantripukhri and met the working scientists of the station.
A face to face programme with some scientists was also arranged on March 6.The invited scientists/experts for the face to face programme included Prof M Mahendra Singh of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal; Prof N Rajmuhon Singh of Chemistry Dept, MU; Associate Professor of Central Agricultural University Dr L Sumarjit Singh, Associate Professor of Physics Dr S Brajamani Singh and Dr S Manichandra, who is a scientists in the Seismological Observatory of Earth Sciences Dept, MU.
During the programme, about 70 science questions were asked by the students and the experts answered them.
At present, the participating students are working on a project entitled, 'Multiplication of fruit plants by conventional techniques : Grafting techniques of Mango A case study' under the guidance of Dr RK Dilip Singh, Associate Professor, CAU, Imphal.
On the last day of the ongoing programme, the students will have science elocution competition.
