Joint meet resolves Leimatak land dispute

A joint meeting has brought about an amicable end to the dispute over land/village ownership in Leimatak area, a few days after the controversy had led to displacement of villagers from their homesteads.
The land dispute had resulted in the destruction of newly constructed houses by a particular group on March 5 night at a Leimatak village, which is close to the Power House of Loktak Multi Purpose Project.
It is informed that an agreement was reached between the contending parties at a joint meeting held this morning at the headquarters of 32 Bn CRPF, which is stationed for security of the Project.
The meeting is said to have been attended by Charoi Khullen Village Authority chairman along with members, village chiefs of Selien and Kukimum, local MLA Manga Vaiphei, vice chairman of ADC Churachandpur Demmang Haokip, CO of 32 Bn CRPF JM Bhagat and Additional SP of Bishnupur LM Haokip.
Mention may be made that the villagers involved in the imbroglio had left their respective villages in the aftermath of the ethnic tension of the 1990s.It is also worth mentioning that timely intervention by personnel of the 32 bn CRPF had prevented the March 5 incident from taking a violent turn.
