IMC revived after 8 month suspension

Imphal, March 09 2011:
After over eight months under suspension, government has revived the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC).
An order regarding the matter was issued on last Monday, however, the order was received by the IMC authority only today, an official source said.
The government, on August 10 last year, had placed the 27 member IMC under suspension for financial irregularities, abuse of power, maladministration and a staggering financial loss of '19.30 lakh a month, based on an enquiry report by a committee constituted by the government.
Even though the IMC has been revived, who will be the chairperson was not mention in the order.
With regard to the post of chairperson, mention may be made here that a case related with the no confidence motion against the then chairperson RK Ranisana moved by some councilors is pending with the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench.
Whether a new chairperson would be elected or the post be given to Ranisana could be not confirmed for the time being, the source said.
The source said new elections for the IMC could be held before May, 2011 .
