Imphal, May 06:
Following inputs of a number of doctors working under the State Health Department acquiring assets inappropriate to their known sources of income, the State Government has started the process of probing the assets of doctors, currently working as well as retired ones.
Disclosing this a well placed source informed The Sangai Express that a number of retired top ranking officials of the Medical Department are known to have acquired wealth beyond their known sources of income.
Their cases will also come under the scanner.
Apart from investigating the assets of the doctors, the Government has also asked them to file their annual property returns.
If the probe reveals anything, then the services of an independent agency may be roped in to further investigate the cases, informed the source.
The Government has also started probing the assets of doctors and officials of the Manipur AIDS Control Society to see whether any fund released for HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns have been misutilised or not, added the source.
To maintain transparency in fund allotted to the NGOs working under the Manipur AIDS Control Society, the Government is also set to announce the names of the NGO availing the funds as well as the amount given to them, added the source.
