Imphal, December 05:
Taking serious note of the allegation that a large amount of money sanctioned for providing relief to the flood and hail storm victims in CCpur had been given away by Deputy Commissioner to an underground organisation, the State Government has directed the officer to submit a detailed report on the matter According to press sources, the Disaster Management Department (Relief Department) had sanctioned Rs 15 lakhs through the Deputy Commissioner in August this year as relief fund for the people of CCpur whose crops and properties were destroyed in the flood and hail storms in 2002.However the relief fund never reached the affected.
The Govt has considered this matter very seriously and accordingly asked the officer to submit a detailed report so that necessary action could be initiated.
A meeting was also held at the office of the Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh a few days back to discuss the matter.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner was grilled thoroughly by the Chief Secretary demanding to know how the relief fund landed into the hands of the undergrounds and why the whole amount was encashed on a single day.
