Imphal, February 02 2015:
Demons-trating strong resentment over the MU authority's failure to look into a charter of demands submitted on December 29 last year, the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) today staged a violent protest demonstration by burning furniture items apart from locking the library.
A team of MUSU went to different departments this morning and they found many departments still locked even though it was already late for class.
They broke open the locks and opened the class rooms.
Altogether class room locks of 10 departments including Department of Education, Adult Education, Sociology and BEd were broken open.

In their next move, the aggrieved students closed the road leading to MU Library which has not been repaired since a long time back.
They also locked the library.
They set afire chairs, timber and bamboo at the gate of men's hostel no 1 and hostel no 2 .
Home Guards posted there could not do anything except watch the scene silently.
Except for the chairs which were set afire directly, the arson did not cause any additional damage.
Later speaking to media persons MUSU president Sarangthem David said that they submitted a charter of demands all related with students' welfare to the MU authority on December 29 last year.
As there was no sign of addressing the demands, a reminder was submitted on January 20 last which set a deadline on January 31 .
In spite of the repeated appeals, MU authority simply swept the charter of demands under carpet.
It was against this irresponsibility of the MU authority that students staged a protest demonstration today.
Some of the demands listed in MUSU's charter included regular power and water supply to all hostels of the university, renovation of worn out buildings, ensuring regularity of both teachers and students in taking/attending classes, declaration of semester exams in time, repairing of roads leading to hostels and library, abstinence from recruitment of staff on contract basis and completion of all pending works.
