Imphal, February 02 2015:
Fumed at the alleged failure of the authorities concerned to avail required materials in library of Manipur University and to blacktop road that leads to the library for the last one year, members of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) locked door of the library on Monday.
The enraged MUSU members also blocked roads leading to Boys Hostel No II and III by placing logs and woods in protest against the failure to blacktop along the roads.
Door locks of several Departments of the university were also broke for failing to open in time.
Speaking to newspersons, S David, president of MUSU reiterated that the union had submitted 11-point charter of demand meant for availing required infrastructure in all the departments of the university to Vice-Chancellor and Registrar but no positive response has been provided so far.
The union has left no option but to agitate as the university authority has failed to address the demands despite repeated request made, he said.
Uninterrupted supply of water, electricity, internet connection; maintenance of quality control in construction of hostels; timely attendance of teaching and non-teaching staff; declaration of exam results in time; early release of scholarship amount and stipend; appointment of required teachers and staff in the university etc are of the demands served by the union.
