Imphal, February 02 2015:
"After the death of my father, I became the chief of Lamdan Kabui village and this was approved by an order issued by the State Government in the name of the Governor," said Lamdan Kabui village chief M Acham.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, M Acham said he became the village chief after the death of his father, M Thaitoungam in 2013 .
However, one M Khureipou claimed that he should be the rightful village chief.
"Even though our family and Khureipou's family belong to the same clan, they are not the head of the village," Acham said.
It was Khureipou who has been opposing tooth and nail to Acham holding the traditional post of village chief.
Acting on a petition filed by Khureipou, the Churachandpur DC issued an order in 2013 acknowledging Khureipou as the Lamdan Kabui village chief.
Challenging the Churachandpur DC's order, Acham filed a complaint with the Governor of Manipur.
After examining the complaint, TA and Hills Department issued an order which categorically directed that no one should stake claim to the post of village chief held by Acham.
