General strike called off

Kakching, May 25 2012:
The 48 hours general strike called by Post Matric Scholarship Affected Guardians' Committee demanding release of Post Matric Schoarship for Scheduled Caste students for the year 2010-11 was called off today evening following an agreement with the state government.
Earlier during the day, a large number of bandh supporters came out in Kakching area and blocked traffic movement by keeping boulders, logs and burning tyres.
Later SP Thoubal Dr Ak Jhaljit came and persuaded the strikers to talk with the Chief Minister to bring a solution over the matter.
Afterward, leaders of the committee and Representatives of Lois talked with the Chief Minister of Manipur, who is currently at New Delhi over the phone.
During the talk, the Chief Minister assured agitators to release the pending scholarship amount.
Subsequently, Under Secretary (Finance) sanctioned the amount upon the instruction of the CM.
The general strike was called off after a joint meeting held at Ibudhou Naohallai Lampak at Kakching Keithel later in the
evening.
