Earthquake mock drill conducted in IE, Thoubal

If the Mega Mock Earthquake Exercise is done on a routine basis, it would help enhance coordination among various Government Departments and stakeholders, said KM Singh, Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday.
Addressing the media at the Conference Hall of the State Secretariat here, KM Singh said the earthquake mock drill held in the two districts of Imphal East and Thoubal today was by and large successful.
Personnel from the Fire Service, Civil Defence, Manipur Police rendered full support and help during the exercise, he informed while saying that if the drill is conducted on a routine basis, coordination among the concerned Government Departments and stakeholders will be enhanced.
Singh said, "It's our duty to save life and properties of the people in the midst of a major natural disaster" .

He also highlighted the need of continuing the drill in all the districts of the State.
For Imphal East, the drill sponsored by NDMA in collaboration with Relief & Disaster Management Department, Government of Manipur, was organised at the district DC Complex, Kusum Oil Pump, City Convention and JNIMS.
In Thoubal, the Mega Mock Drill was held under the objective "Be Aware, Be Prepared, Be Organised." As part of the drill, a programme under the theme "Multi-state Mega Mock Exercise on M 8.7 Shillong Earthquake Scenario" was also organised at the district DC Complex.
The exercise was widely carried out at Wangjing bazaar, District Hospital, Thoubal, Mini Secretariat of DC, Thoubal, Thoubal bazaar and Thoubal College.
