Manipur Theatre Day celebrated

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has said that theatre and drama are important forms of art, which educate people and contribute a lot in the protection and promotion of culture and tradition.
He was speaking as chief guest at Manipur Theatre Day celebration organised by Theatre Centre, Manipur at Manipur Dramatic Union today.
Theatre Centre Chairman Wareppa Naba and Thongju Assembly Constituency MLA Th Bishwajit also attended the function as president and special guest respectively.
In his speech, Gaikhangam said that theatre is an important part of the society which showcases and promotes the culture of the society.
Peace and harmony would prevail in the society as long as culture and tradition are protected, he said and urged the gathering to digest the central idea and message while watching a play.

Saying that Manipur is a State which has a rich cultural heritage, Gaikhangam said that the culture of Manipur enjoys high esteem not only in the North East but also in the whole country.
In his speech Th Bishwajit said that promotion of theatre is tantamount to uplifting culture and tradition.
Saying that sports and culture identify Manipur to the world, the MLA said that successful artistes must also be encouraged by giving suitable Government jobs like champion sportspersons.
Later in the function, Theatre Centre Manipur Awards 2014 were presented to Kh Ranbir and Nandakumar Moirangthem and Lalit Memorial Award 2014 to P Ibohal.
Natya Ratna awardee B Jugolchandra Sharma and Wareppa Naba were also feted at the function.
