Imphal, October 21 2014 :
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Manipur Pradesh has stated that though the BJP has been able to inflict crushing defeats on the Congress in other States the same cannot be said in Manipur.
This is not because the Congress has ensured fair and just governance but because it has been using money and muscle power.
In a statement, vice-president of BJYM (Media In-charge), Kh Basanta said the Congress party emerged victorious in the Hiyanglam AC by-poll due to its tactful use of money power, muscle power and rhetoric.
There was also indication that votes were commoditised among a large segment of voters of Hiyanglam AC as they cheaply traded their valuable votes for a few thousand rupees by ignoring the woes and plights of fishermen affected by the devastation of Pumlen Pat and Khoidum Pat and the negligence of the AC by subsequent Govt, it said.
Most of the voters took money from almost all candidates, it said.
At the same time, the elected ones could not render service to the people since they have to spend a huge amount of money to buy votes.
As such, it is hard to decide whether the blame should go to the elected ones or the people like the chicken and egg syndrome.
The voters never bothered to give a thought to the initiatives of the BJP like establishment of a Sports University, improvement of Imphal-Jiri highway, cutting down the sky-high petrol and diesel prices since it came to power at the Centre.
At the same time, some politicians of the State have made it a point to compulsorily fight the election without considering individual and party position.
Frequent change of allegiance to party also resulted in the lost of confidence by the public.
It said politicians should also have the guts to not contest elections in order to win public trust and confidence.
