PFA rescues turtle

People for Animals (PFA) Manipur have found an adult Ganges soft-shell turtle weighing 5 kg from the Lilong Atoukhong Maning Leikai, here today, according to a PRA Manipur statement.
Two young brothers, Jiaour Rahaman and Baharun Rahaman spotted the turtle near a canal on their return from school.
They handed over the turtle to Md.Helaluddin, Secretary of Athoukhong Maning Laikai Development and Social Cultural Association Manipur (AMDASCAM), which in turn gave it to PFA Manipur.
The turtle got injury on its limbs and belly, and had worn out nails indicating prolonged traveling on harsh surface.
Ganges soft-shell turtle is usually found in river and fresh water lakes.
Its soft body loves the soft bed of sand or mud of water bodies.
They are fast swimmer.
Its name derived from River Ganga and the beautiful soft shell it has.
This turtle will be relocated at Loktak lake after recovery of its injuries.
