Annual State Exhibition of Art commences, Min Jayanta stresses on importance of nurturing art

The 88th Annual State Exhibition of Art commenced today at Manipur State Art Gallery, Palace Compound.
The event will be conducted for five days.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Art and Culture Minister L Jayanta stated that a person from a different State or country know about Manipur not only through Sports, Art & Culture but also through the undeniable talents of the youths and the people of Manipur.
He further stated that such talents and skill should be nurtured, sustained and continued for the sake of the future generation and the State as well.
Despite the establishment of Cultural University through an Act of Manipur State Assembly, the dilemma of not having a site for the location of the university can disheartening to all, however, a location has been identified to solve the problem, the Minister assured.
Claiming that the area touches some part of forest areas, he further assured that the officials concerned have been sent for clearance.
The Minister further stated that the Union Minister of State for Culture (Independent charge) Dr Mahesh Sharma also gave his commitment to extend maximum aid in the construction of building mega structure for the university.
Chaoba hill under Thanga is surrounded by water bodies on all four sides, is a Khas land, he said and added that the Art and Culture Dept has been trying to change the land name under the Art and Culture Dept after associating with DC Revenue Minister.
If the said area is converted or kept under the Dept, the area can be used for keeping cultural archives, museum etc and this project has also been introduced to the Ministry of Culture as well, he added.
The Minister further mentioned that the area for construction of film city and institute has also been identified.
Commissioner Art and Culture M Lakshmikumar Singh opined that opening an art gallery at Kangla would also beautify and provide numerous significance thus the project will be deliberated with Kangla Fort Board for further actions.
