Murdered girl identified

Imphal, September 12 2011:
The teenage girl who is suspected to have been raped before being murdered and whose body was found abandoned at Cheiraoching, Chingmeirong yesterday have been identified as a one Vasmi Khaleng, 15, d/o of Ngaithingkhui of Paorei village under Chingai sub-division, Ukhrul district.
The victim was a student of RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Pangei in XI standard and was presently residing in Working Women cum Girl hostel, Dewlahland, Imphal.
According to information received from the hostel the victim went out of the hostel around 9 in the morning of Saturday last, the outing day of the hostel, and remain traceless till date.
Hostellers saw her going off with a male friend in a rickshaw.
She had informed the hostel warden that she was going out for marketing.
The victim's family has urged the government to book and punish the culprit immediately.
Strongly condemning the rape and subsequent murder, they termed the act as savage act.
Later the lifeless body of the victim has been claimed by the family member after post mortem.
Vasmi Khaleng was found dead naked at Cheiraoching yesterday with bruise mark on her entire body and strangulation mark on her neck.
She was allegedly raped before being murdered, speculated police sources.
Meanwhile, the United NGOs Mission-Manipur (UNM-M) vehemently condemned the rape and brutal killing of Vasmi Khaleng.
In a statement the UNM-M said that killing of innocent women and children has rapidly increased in the state during the last 5-6 years.
It urged the state government to check and investigate the crimes against women and children and book the culprit investigation of all crimes against women and children happening in Manipur.
