Imphal, September 12 2011:
The prolonged highway blockade and the concomitant extreme misery being suffered by the people of Manipur is a result of inaptitude on the part of the Ibobi-led Congress Government, stated BJP North East Zonal Organising Secretary P Chandra Shekhar.
Speaking at the concluding function of a three-day residential training camp for Mahila Morcha at BJP office here today, Chandra Shekhar asserted that the Congress-led coalition Government of Manipur has not taken up any single step sincerely to resolve the 40 years old Sadar Hills issue.
At the same time, the level of corruption in public offices has reached the highest mark under the incumbent SPF Government, he added.
Chief Minister O Ibobi leaving Manipur for a foreign tour when the State was embroiled in a serious crisis because of the prolonged highway blockade, which again was the result of the State Government's inability to resolve the Sadar Hills issue, was a big blunder.
To resolve the issue of Sadar Hills, BJP has already talked with the Governor of Manipur, Chandra Shekhar said.
Talking about transport infrastructure, policies and programmes chalked out during the period of BJP-led NDA Government for development of highways and other inter-State roads connected to Manipur have not been implemented by the UPA Government till date.
It is the responsibility of the State's Chief Minister to keep the roads fit and fine.
As long as the contract system of executing road development work prevails, one cannot expect any good or standard road, he asserted.
Responding to a query raised by some trainee Mahilas about the State's law and order situation, Chandra Shekhar Rao said that Manipur and Nagaland are the two States in the North East region which have been witnessing maximum cases of violence.
The parallel claims for exclusive domains by Nagas and Kuki are issues concerning the State.
The State Government should work sincerely these issues.
Charging the Ibobi-led Government of having links with underground organisations, Chandra Shekhar Rao asserted that there can be neither peace nor security for the people in a conflict-ridden State like Manipur where the Government is also maintaining link with UG groups.
People have of Manipur should have the grit to speak out and stand up against criminal activities like murder, extortion, abduction for ransom etc.
In the same vein, people must have the courage to voice their grievances against the Government, Chandra Shekhar said.
He said that BJP would make its best efforts to ensure BJP win 15 to 20 seats in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
In constituencies where BJP is relatively weak, BJP would support other parties in order to defeat Congress candidates, he added.
