Imphal, September 12 2011:
The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) is all set to launch agitations against the price rise of essential commodities in the state, and has given a dateline of September 15 for the government to declare the exact price of all essential commodities to the public.
Addressing the media at a press conference held at its head office at DM College campus, Dipanjit Ningthoujam, General Secretary, AMSU said that with the imposition of economic blockade in all the NHs of the state, businessmen in the state mostly in Imphal area have taken undue advantage and have raised the price of all essential commodities at their will, creating a huge lot of problem for the common people.
If the businessmen can fix the prices of all essential commodities at their will then there is no point in the government instituting a Price Fixation Committee.
The government should fix the price of all essential commodities and declare it to the public on or before the September 15, failing which AMSU along with the general public will resort to begin all types of agitations.
He further appealed to businessmen to sell goods at the price fixed by the government.
Those businessmen and shopkeepers, who cannot sell the goods at the price fixed by the government, are advised to close down their business or face severe consequences.
He also appealed to the public who are affected by the increase in price of petroleum products to come out and join the agitation.
The government should come up with a solid plan to counter all these problems.
As a part of the agitation all go downs of businessmen and shopkeepers where the stocks are piled up will also be checked, he said.
