Imphal, September 12 2011:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has observed that prolong imposition of economic blockade along the National Highways over a genuine demand like district status to Sadar hills may led to dilution of the issue.
In a statement, information and public relations secretary of UCM Kh Nilamani Kh-Nganba said UCM morally supports the over 40-year old district demand for Sadar hills and it is a rightful demand.
But prolong imposition of economic blockade along the National Highways, thereby creating inconveniences to all the people, may dilute such a right cause.
Asking whether it is the blockade supporters or the Government of Manipur which would be responsible for any eventuality over prolong imposition of economic blockade in a State that has no alternative means other than the existing National Highways, UCM asserted that the failure of Government to bail out the people from the present situation arising out of the indefinite economic blockade of SHDDC and counter blockade of UNC has shown its inherent weakness.
The present crisis has come about on account of the failure of the successive Governments to resolve issues from time to time, UCM maintained.
On the other hand, contrary to the assurance given to UCM delegation for a definite response on lifting the blockade within three days, SHDDC has not budged from its stand, thus increasing the suffering of the people, UCM contended.
Though the unfortunate incident of September 10 which was created by some anti-social elements by spreading rumour had been brought under control through timely intervention by UNC, all the communities living in Manipur should come out of their narrow parochial outlook to ensure such incidents are not repeated, UCM observed, while demanding the Government of Manipur to work out a solution and put an end to the suffering of the people.
