340 orange growers participate in Orange seminar in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, December 08 2015:
One-day seminar on the 'Aspect of Productivity and Marketing of Orange' was held on Tuesday at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong.
The programme was organised by Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department and DRDA Tamenglong as part of 12th Edition of State Level Orange Festival.
Dr RK Roshan, SMS (Hort.) KVK; Dr RK Dilip Associate Professor, CAU; N Ajit Kummar, SMS (Plant protection) KVK, Ukrul and Dr Kh Ibohal, Associate Professor, CAU Imphal were the resource persons in the seminar.
Giving his key-note address, Joseph Pauline, Chief Executive Officer ADC Tamenglong/ ADM Tamenglong said that without the orange growers, there would not be any orange festival.
He appealed the orange growers to plant more plants to increase their productivity and to improve economy for changing the living style.
Joseph stated, "Tamenglong orange have its uniqueness, it is fortunate that Tamenglong soil and climate is suitable for growing of oranges.
It is God's blessing, let us take the advantages and plant more oranges".
Orange is more profitable than Jhuming cultivation, he added.
He further appealed the participants to come and display their produce.
Over 340 Orange growers attended the seminar.
Meanwhile, after the seminar, orange growers demanded to translate the Chief Minister's assurance last year to increase the incentives given to the Orange grower to Rs 5000 .
The growers alleged that in the beginning when the orange festival started, the growers were provided with free meal, cash/ reimbursement of staying in Tamenglong.
Now all the facilities have been removed despite the ban imposed on United Naga Council.
Later, the orange growers met the Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong in his office chamber.
