Elections to 18 Municipal Councils, 8 Nagar Panchayat to be held on Jan 11
DCs of four districts will be election officers; notification today

Necessary preparations have been made to hold the elections to the 18 Municipal Councils and eight Nagar Panchayat of four valley districts, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur on January 11, 2016.Deputy Commissioners (DC) of four valley districts will be assigned as District Municipal Elections Officers and ADC and SDOs will be the Returning Officers of the elections, stated State Election Commission Manipur (SECM) Secretary Mutum Radharani.
During an interaction with media persons at SECM office, Lamphelpat, Radharani said that election code of conduct will be enforced immediately after the election notification is issued on December 9.Filing of the nomination will be done on December 14 and the scrutiny will be conducted on December 15.Candidates can withdraw their candidature on December 17.Re-poll of the election, if necessary, will be held on January 13 and the counting will be done on January 15 .
In the election, 279 councilors of 279 wards and 558 members of Ward Development Committee will be elected.
In the Imphal East District, 31 councilors and 62 ward development committee members will be elected from Jiribam Municipal Council, Andro Nagar Panchayat, Lamlai Municipal Council.
A total of 14,252 voters will cast their votes in a total of 62 polling stations.
In the Imphal West District, a total of 72 councilors and 144 ward development committee members will be elected from Mayang Imphal Municipal Council, Lilong Nagar Panchayat, Samurou Nagar Panchayat, Wangoi Municipal Council, Thongkhong Laxmi Bazar Nagar Panchayat, Sekmai Nagar Panchayat and Lamsang Nagar Panchayat.
A total of 61,396 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the 146 polling stations.
For the Thoubal District, 93 councilors and 186 ward development committee members will be elected from Thoubal Municipal Council, Heirok Nagar Panchayat, Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council, Lilong Municipal Council, Kakching Municipal Council, Kakching Khunou Municipal Council and Sugnu Municipal Council.
A total of 98,886 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the 213 polling stations.
In the Bishnupur District, 83 councilors and 166 ward development committee members will be elected from Nambol Municipal Council, Oinam Nagar Panchayat, Bishnupur Municipal Council, Ningthoukhong Municipal Council, Moirang Municipal Council, Kwakta Municipal Council and Kumbi Municipal Council.
A total of 61,768 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the 166 polling stations in the 83 wards.
State Election Commission Manipur will soon issue notification to the departments to make necessary arrangements for holding free and fair election, said Radharani.
She appealed all to extend necessary help in holding the election.
