KSO suspends stir; serves 5-day ultimatum

Kuki Students' Organization GHQ has decided to suspend its 48-hr general strike imposed in the hill districts of the State on Tuesday evening from 6 pm onwards but served a 5-day ultimatum on the State Government to book the culprits involved in the brutal assault of KSO Chandel president and two village chiefs.
The decision of the student body to suspend the agitation came after a joint meeting with State Government representatives and Assam Rifles officials on Tuesday at KSO Sadar Hills office, Kangpokpi.
48-hr general strike had been imposed in all hill districts of the state by KSO GHQ from midnight of December 6 in protest against the brutal assault on KSO Chandel President Doumang Haokip and two village chiefs by 24 AR personnel led by one Major Manish Sharma at Khudengthabi Check post on December 5 .
The joint meeting on Tuesday was attended by Tengnoupal MLA Korungthang; LM Khaute, Additional DGP (LO) and T Guite, IG (Zone-II) representing the State Government while Col Anil Mathew, 20 AR represented the 26 Sector Assam Rifles along with Col Dinesh Chufal, CO 24 AR.
KSO GHQ President Paotinthang Lupheng; General Secretary Seiboi Haokip and other KSO members from different districts/blocks and Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills executives attended the meeting.
The meeting, which lasted almost two hours minutely deliberated over the Khudengthabi assault.
The student body expressed their dismay with the issue and also stated that this episode was not the first time that occurred at the check post.
The State Government representatives and the AR officials assured the student body to book the culprits involved in the assault of KSO Chandel President Doumang Haokip and two other village chiefs within five days in the meeting.
With the assurance of the State Government and the Assam Rifles authority, the student body decided to suspend the stir with effect from 6 pm Tuesday.
However, the student body warns that if the State Government and the AR authority fail to materialize their assurance within the stipulated time they will resume the agitation immediately.

DGP L.M.Khaute for his efforts and initiative in solving the impasse in the interest of the student community in particular and the State as a whole.
Meanwhile, the student body expressed their resentment over the police unsolicited activities towards the KSO bandh volunteers particularly in Tamenglong districts and warns to take up another extreme agitation if they [the concern police] and concerned department continue their inhumane activities towards the bandh volunteers.
