Thoubal, October 21 2015:
A 41-year-old man succumbed to injuries on Wednesday following a reported road mishap, but a team of Thoubal Police commandos have been blamed for his death.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the death of Sinam Tomboy of Thoubal Thiyam Siphai Liethagol in Thoubal district blocked the National Highway 102 from early morning in protest.
JAC convenor Mutum Ingo claimed that Tomboy died after being severely beaten up by the police commandos.
Tomboy went to the house of one of his friends named Ranjit at Waithou for a dinner on October 18.A team of Thoubal police commandos on a QRT duty through the mobile phone of Tomboy informed Ranjit at about 9:30 pm that night that Tomboy had met with an accident.
He was rushed to Thoubal District Hospital and later referred to Shija Hospital where he died in the wee hours of Wednesday, Ingo informed.
There were no signs of injury on his body other than bruise marks of police boot seen on his chest and hence it is suspected that he was beaten to death, Ingo further said.
The authority should find out the mystery surrounding the death, he demanded.
The JAC convenor said the road blockade agitation will continue until all culprits are brought to book and punished.
All the police commandos who were on QRT duty should be interrogated in connection with the death of Tomboy, he demanded.
Local MLA K Meghachandra took stock of the situation at Thoubal Kiyam Siphai where the agitation was being launched by the JAC.
Representatives of the JAC later met the MLA at the office of the district Superintendent.
A public meeting held at Thoubal Thiyam Siphai decided not to claim the body of Tomboy until justice is delivered.
Several other resolutions were also adopted during the meeting.
