Student body seize stocked PDS

Members of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) seized a large quantity of stocked PDS materials from a private storehouse located at Lukram Leirak Part-II which is adjacent to the FCI Godown, Sangaiprou.
According to the student body, a random drive to inspect the unauthorised distribution of PDS items from the storehouse of the FCI was conducted today and the activity came to light.
The storehouse stockpiled rice bags of eight trucks which account to more than 1500 bags of rice.
Khundrakpam Angoubi w/o Sarat, a local, who owns the storehouse stated that, she rented out the storehouse to private contractors from time to time before the goods are shipped to other destinations.
She added, today eight trucks all carrying rice from the FCI was supposed to unload at the storehouse.
However valid documents relating to authorization for renting out spaces to store PDS materials from any departments concerned were not available with the owner when asked to produce by members of the student body.
Addressing media persons, secretary general of AMSU Manjit Sarangthem stated that such illegal and unauthorised activities by officials of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution (CAF and PD) with some businessmen has created shortage of PDS materials to the general public.
He urged the department concerned and authorities to look into the matter and requested the State Vigilance Commission to monitor the activities of CAF and PD.
