Imphal, June 20 2021:
Hailing the Police Department and the judiciary for swift action taken up against Rupesh Singh, who is accused of sexual assault on a minor at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak, People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has urged for giving stringent punishment to the accused.
In a release, PANDM IPR secretary Rosnikanta Takhelcha welcomed the decree of the Special Judge POCSO, Imphal West Court on Saturday for remanding Rupesh Singh (25), son of late Chandramohon Singh of Ghitorni, South Delhi to 15 days in judicial custody.
The action taken by the Manipur Police Department in arresting the accused and registering a case under POCSO Act without any delay is also praiseworthy, it said.
Investigation should also be conducted on whether other people were involved in the case.
Severest form of punishment should be processed against perpetrators of such despicable crimes so as to set an example in future.
Authority concerned should also provide immediate interim compensation to the victim under the POCSO Act, 2012, it asserted.
PANDM further advised rent owners to properly verify their tenants based on Aadhaar Card, Voter Card along with demanding character certificate issued by police and in case of a labourer, Labour Card issued by State Labour Department should be insisted upon.
For thorough implementation of ILP System, proper guidelines should be formed for categorising non-locals and indigenous peoples of the state, it added.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) has strongly condemned the recent cases of rape of an 11-year-old girl child at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak allegedly by Rupesh Singh and an 8-year-old girl child at Moreh, Chandel district allegedly by Mangminlan Touthang (33), son of Hemthang Touthang of Moreh JH Vajang Village Moreh Ward No 2 Mission Veng.
In a release, AMAWOVA general secretary Ksh Sujata said such horrendous crimes on innocent minors must be stopped immediately.
Authority concerned must investigate the accused involved in the cases and punish them according to law with full public knowledge.
