Thoubal, June 20 2021:
Covid Task Force formed to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic in Heirok assembly constituency of Thoubal district has been shouldering the responsibility of performing the last rites of people who succumbed to the virus thereby enabling family members of the victim to at least pay their last respect to the deceased by offering floral tributes.
The task force strictly follows 'Dead Body Management' guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and has been shouldering the responsibility of claiming the dead body from hospital and performing the last rites despite being a challenging task.
This act of the task force has not only eased problems faced by families of the victims in performing last rites but also enabling them to pay respect to the deceased as per the religion they follow.
As of now four volunteers of the task force are shouldering the entire responsibility of performing the last rites of Covid victims and they are Laishram Megha and Laishram Chand of Heirok Part-I Heituppokpi Mamang Leikai and Saikhom Geetchandra and Thokchom Sidam of Heirok Part-II Keithel.
Mention may be made here that when a person from Thokchom Khul died due to COVID-19 last month, Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam himself took part in the cremation conducted at the local crematorium by volunteers of the task force as no locals except few family members came out to perform the last rites of the deceased.
