Covid Task Force extends aid to PHCs in Poumai Naga area

Poumai Naga Covid Task Force has donated Covid essentials including power backup to five PHCs operating in Poumai Naga area.
Addressing a gathering, Poumai Naga Covid Task Force convener J Joyti stated that it was formed on May 25, 2021 in a joint meeting of Poumai Naga Union (PNU), Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM) and Poumai Naga Students' Union (PNTM) in view of the emergent need in the region with the sole vision to improve the functioning of various health care centres within the jurisdiction of Poumai Naga area.
He said that to take stock of the preparedness of health centres amid the second wave of Covid-19, a team of Pou-mai Naga frontal organisations had recently visited the PHCs within Poumai jurisdiction and sadly found many infrastructure shortages as well as lack of basic requirements in these health centres.
In order to support these health centres, the Covid task force sought donations from individuals, organisations, churches, villages and subordinates of PNTM with which the required materials were procured for distribution.
The task force expressed gratitude to J Maivio Woba, a prominent social/student leader, for his continuous support to the task force in procuring requisite equipment.
Naga People's Organisation president Solomon Arow complimented Poumai Naga Covid Task Force for all the arrangements they had made in view of the emergent need during these difficult times.
The NPO leader also urged all concerned to give importance to proper functioning of the health care centres in the region as they are "life giving sources".
Adahrii Maheo, ADM Senapati, expressed amazement on witnessing such huge contribution to the health care centres.
The ADM said the donated equipment will give a boost to effective functioning of the health centres.
He also urged all to spread public awareness on strict adherence to SOPs, saying that it is the only way to get back to normalcy.
Dr Pfokreho Pfoze, CMO Senapati, informed that there are 55 positive cases in the district at present with 51 patients under home isolation for 17 days.
There is also possibility of the third wave within 2-3 months' time and the variant of the virus keeps changing every 11 days, the CMO said, while asking all to adhere to SOPs.
The second weapon to contain the spread of the virus is to vaccinate with Covishield.
Unless 60-70% of the total population are vaccinated, one cannot attain the stage of herd immunity.
The seriousness of the disease can be prevented with higher rate of vaccination, he said, asking the Poumai Naga Covid Task Force to spread this message.
The district medical department recently formed a mobile vaccination team which is ready to go to any village even to the interior one in the district who cannot afford to come to Senapati for vaccination.
A mobile vaccination drive is being organised at Sangkumei for people of the surrounding villages as requested by the villagers.
The CMO explained that when one is vaccinated, the virus cannot multiply within that person with lesser severity inside and minimal transmission to other.
He then expressed gratitude to the Poumai frontal organisations for their concern for the people of the region, while appealing to all medical staffers to be stationed at their respective posting places during these hard times.
D Dailord Pao, resident PNU, on behalf of the Covid Task Force, expressed gratitude to all contributors from individuals, villages, societies and churches to International Buddhist Confederation, Tzu Chi Charity Foundation, Wandani.
While appreciating their sacrifices, MOs in charge of the PHCs were also requested to give their best effort to save lives at respective health centres.
Earlier, the Poumai Naga Officers Federation (PNOF) had donated a 33 kv generator to District Hospital, Senapati.
One each of oxygen concentrator and generator, PPE kits and face masks were distributed to MO in charge of Oinam Hill, Khongdei, Phaibung, Laii and Paomata PHCs.
First aid medicines and other essential medical tablets for each PHC were also given to each health care centre.
