MEELAL to erect statues of 7 Maichous

Statues of 7 'Maichous', the scholars who had visions for the future of the land at various stages of history would be erected at Maiba Khul at Koirengei in Imphal east, MEELAL announced today.
During a press meet held today, Chief of MEELAL Sadokpam Tomba said MEELAL has been spearheading various agitations for development of the native language and script, and it is the objective of organization to save the language and script of the land.
Moreover, MEELAL is also endeavoring to preserve and popularize the religious and scholastic leaders of the land, he added.
The 7 'Maichous' whose statues would be erected are Epu Khongnangthaba, Moirang Lalhaba, Konok Thenggra, Langol Lukhoi, Samungou Chigong, Thongba Maiba and Khurkhul Thabipa, informed Tomba while saying that the 7 renowned scholars were able to make predictions for the future and they have been worshipped even by the present generation.
The statues will be placed at Maiba Khul in Koirengei in Imphal East, he pointed out and said a land area measuring .72 has been donated by the film actor RK Kaiku @ Somendro for erecting the statues.
Informing that sculpting of the statues will begin with formation of a trust, MEELAL chief appealed to all people including Ministers, MLAs and wealthy people to extend donations towards the endeavour.
The step of the organization is to reintroduce the 7 Maichous to the younger generation and it is also planning to erect statues of leaders belonging to Pangal and tribal brethrens, he added.
Saying that the models of the proposed statues are available with the MEELAL, Tomba also called upon the people to give comments on the statue models on or before August 8 .
Participating in the press meet, actor RK Kaiku said it has been his dream to donate a place or statue of the early scholars.
A children's park is also being constructed at the site of the proposed statues in Maiba Khul, stated Kaiku saying it will be inaugurated shortly.
