Lamdeng solid waste management plant ready for use: CM

The construction of solid waste management plant at Lamdeng has been completed and is ready for use, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated on the floor of the State Assembly on Friday.
He was responding to a calling attention motion raised by MLA Dr Ibohalbi on dumping of waste materials in Imphal River in the House.
Ibobi further said that functioning of the solid waste management plant cannot be stopped in mid way once it gets operational so the government has been discussing minutely on whether the responsibility of maintenance of the plant should be entrusted to Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) or any other private firm.
Replying to calling attention motion, Forest & Environment Minister, Devendra said that the government had already inspected the Imphal River acting on news reports published in local newspapers regarding illegal dumping of waste products at Thumbuthong area along the river and informed that the waste materials dumped in the area have been already cleared using sewerage cleaning truck of PDA.
The waste materials dumped in the area were from Yumnam Leikai area.
However, it has not polluted the river.
Water test of the river was conducted by Manipur Pollution Control Board, he added.
MLA Ibohalbi said that incident of dumping waste in river should be taken seriously given that many people are using water of rivers for various purposes including drinking.
