Imphal, July 19 2014 :
The Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Labourer Welfare Association has decided to launch hunger strike from July 23 in case positive response is not received by July 22 .
The labourers have been agitating since July 6 last urging the concerned authority of the Government of Manipur to provide various demands including wage hike.
Briefing the reporters near CAF & PD godown, the secretary of the Association Romendrajit Moirangcha lamented over the attitude of the Government of undermining the right and dignity of labourers and also using the labour forcibly.
He also mentioned that the labourers didn't know legal provisions of the rights of the labour in the past but the labourers now know about labour law.
He also denounced the concerned officers of the department for making remarks as unknown lots to the long-suffered labourers instead of absorbing them in the department.
He further mentioned that there is no opportunistic attitude with the labourers; they only demanded to increase their wages in accordance with time and also regularise the long-sufferers.
Instead of it, the concerned officials of the department intend to cease the service of the labourers, Romendrajit lamented and further added several memorandums have been submitted to the department but no response was received yet.
In order to attract the attention of the Government, cease work strike including prohibition of lifting consumable goods has been launched for the last twenty days.
However, the secretary exclaimed, no discussion was made in the ongoing Assembly session and continued that there is no opposition for the present Government.
Acknowledging the grievances of the public , Romendrajit said that the goods of the godown are essential items of daily consumables.
He then announced that godown closure has been lifted from today but the cease work strike will continue as usual.
He then expressed they have no ill intention towards public while imposing ban for lifting the daily consumables from the godown but the labourers opted it as there is no other means with them.
