Aids sought for treatment of police firing victim

With the Government of Manipur so far not extending any financial help to Bhim Karki (45) from Bijaynagar, Kanglatongbi, who was injured in police firing during Kanglatombi agitation against the alleged rape of a 13-year old girl by a special contractor named S.Ngapuni (65) on April 18 last at Sangakpham Paomei Colony, the family of Bhim Karki has called for the attention of the state government to extend assistance at the earliest.
Bhim Karki, who sustained bullet injury in police firing to control the agitation, is being treated at Raj Polyclinic at North AOC.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao at the Raj Polyclinic today, the Pradhan of Kanglatombi Gram Panchayat Shivakumar Basneb recalled that on 18 April last, special contractor S.Ngaopuni had raped a 13 year old Nepali girl at Sangakpham Paomei Colony.
Protesting against the most indecent act of the special contractor, hundreds of Nepalis of Kanglatombi area staged agitation, he further recalled and added that during firing by police to control the demonstration, Bhim Karki sustained bullet injury.
Bhim Karki was admitted to Raj Polyclinic and a surgical operation conducted on that day.
Due to complications after discharge from the clinic, he was again admitted on June 23 last and treated at the ICU of the clinic, he said.
The JAC formed in connection with the incident had also demanded assistance for medical treatment and a suitable job for the family member of firing victim, he recounted saying the chief minister had also given assurance to the JAC demands.
However, no assistance has been provided to the firing victim and no chargesheet has been framed against the accused rapist S.Ngapuni till date, he added.
Pradhan Shivakumar Basneb urged the state government to remit the expenses incurred in the treatment of Truck driver Bhim Karki, which has gone now around Rs.5 lakhs.
He also called upon the government to materialize the demands of the JAC which was already assured by the government.
During the meet at the hospital, members of All Manipur Gurkha Students' Union were also present.
