Imphal, August 01 2013:
Decrying the loss of large territory of Manipur to Myanmar as a result of the ongoing Indo-Myanmar border fencing, Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council Dr M Nara has cautioned that the State government not to give even an inch of land of the State to Myanmar.
Addressing media persons at Irawat Bhavan here today, Dr Nara questioned the motive of Indian Government for taking up border fencing works before the boundaries are not properly settled with the neighbouring country.
The State Government should be proactive to urge the Centre to stop the ongoing border fencing works and settle the border issues amicably, he averred.
State CPI would take up the issue of border fencing at the National Executive Meeting of CPI to be held in New Delhi from August 7 to 9.The misgovernance of the State Government would be highlighted and discussed at length during the meeting, Dr Nara noted.
The CPI leader also expressed discontentment and blamed the Government for non-availability of petroleum products and fertilizers in the State.
Ex-Minister N Mangi, who was also present on the occasion, said that about 10 kilometres of State's territory is most likely to be lost due to ongoing border fencing.
The State Government should intervene and stop the border fencing works before large territory of the State is lost to Myanmar, he urged.
