Manipuri Language Day celebrated

Commemorating the day when Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution, Manipuri language Day was celebrated in different parts of the state.
The Patriotic Writers Forum, Manipur organized the event at the auditorium of its office at New Checkon today.
On the occasion, the Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur handed over its annual award to three individuals including one woman who have contributed their mite towards promotion of Manipuri literature.
The biannual edition of "Ngaklou" was also released on the occasion.
The function was graced by B Jayentakumar Sharma, former President, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad and Sagolshem Indrakumar, President of Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, B Jayentakumar Sharma said that this day is a memorable day in the history of Manipur as Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution and given due recognition by the Constitution.
However, after 20 years of its inclusion in the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution, we need to ask ourselves how far the language has been developed.
For a language to develop, not only its people but the government has to play an active role.
Floral tributes were also offered to the photos of renowned writers of the state by the people on the occasion.
The day was also observed by the Manipuri Language Development Society (MALADES) at Ibudhou Thongju Lakpa Laibung in Thongju Part II with MLA Dr I Ibohalbi as Chief Guest and Dr Panthou Pana, member, Minorities Commission as president.
MLA Th Bishwajit and MLA O Lukhoi were also present as Guests of Honour.
The Manipuri Language Day was also observed by Manipuri Literary Society along with a discussion session on Manipuri language.
The function was presided over by Sh Prahlad Sharma.
