Imphal, August 20, 2012:
Claiming that there is adequate stock of fuel in the IOC depot, CAF&PD Minister M Okendro has appealed to the public not to indulge in panic buying or purchase fuel more than necessary.
He also clarified that retail fuel outlets remained shut in the past couple of days as fuel tankers were not allowed to unload at the depot due to a communication gap.
There was a communication gap regarding the demand of transporters to compensate for the damages inflicted on their vehicles and injuries suffered by their colleagues during the highway bandh in Senapati district because of which no tankers were unloaded.
Speaking to media persons at his office today, Okendro said that following the State Cabinet's decision to fulfil their demand, the transporters agreed to unload fuel but retail outlets could not deposit the requisite amount in time.
But now all these problems have been solved.
There is 15 day stock of petrol in Chingmeirong depot and 22 day stock of diesel, informed the Minister.
One unknown body Protection and Preservation Committee which is not registered convened a meeting with retail outlet owners/managers about closure of oil pumps.
One written statement which threatened permanent closure of oil pumps if their owners/managers did not attend the said meeting was also shown by the Minister to the media persons.
If there is any discontent, the matter may be discussed with the Government but there is no need to shut down oil pumps.
Police have been asked to find out credentials of the committee, Okendro said.
Talking with TSE, representatives of some retail outlets said that they could deposit the requisite money as the SBI's main server installed at Mumbai broke down on August 16.On the other hand, IOC officials said that they have received utilisation certificate from the ADC Kangpokpi regarding the huge quantity of kerosene seized by police from Khurkhul some months back.
