Imphal, May 17 2014 :
Karang Island Development Organisation (KIDO) called on Manipur Government on Saturday to take immediate steps to send medical doctors and nurses to the lone PHC at Thanga Karang village.
Thanga Karang is a small floating village in Loktak Lake in Bishunupur district.
At a press conference in the village today, KIDO president S Kiran said that Karang has been suffering from complete deprivation of basic amenities by Manipur Government.
The fishermen community has been let to live without safe drinking water, educational institutions and health centres for a long time, he said.
Kiran pointed out that the PHC at the village has remained defunct for the last two years with no one to look after it because not a single doctor or nurse has been posted, thus making it impossible for the villagers to have access to even the basic health facility.
"Manipur Government should immediately send staff medical doctors and nurses to the centre," he appealed.
