River sweeps away boy

Imphal, May 15 2018:
A 15-year-old boy has been swept away by the current of Imphal River at Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai near Mongkhanglambi/Waikhom Leikai Bridge in Imphal East.
He has been identified as one Ningthoujam Mahesh s/o Ningthoujam Birendro and N (o) Memtombi Devi of Nambol, but presently residing at the maternal home of the later at Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai.
The boy is the only child of the couple and is studying in class 9 at Catholic School, Canchipur.
According to information culled from the spot, Mahesh slipped into the Imphal River while trying to fetch football which had fallen into the river using a stick at around 7.30 am today.
He was playing football on the river bank with his friends at his locality near Mongkhanglambi bridge.
Locals and personnel of Manipur Fire Service and police were carrying out massive search at different points between Kyamgei bridge and the spot where the boy fell in Imphal River.
However, the boy could not be recovered till evening.
