20th Challenge Cup : Langol FC, SHDSVA cruise into semis

After Chajing FC and Lilong FC secured their semi-final berths yesterday, Langol FC and SHDSVA, Kangpokpi also defeated their rivals in today's quarter final matches of the 20th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament 2018 staged at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal to cruise into semifinals.
In the third quarter final match of the tournament, Langol FC edged out United Veterans, Kolkata by 7-6 goals via a tiebreaker (sudden death) after a goalless draw during the regulation time.
Both Langol FC and the Kolkata side who were given direct entry into the quarter finals played very competitively marking well each other.
Both teams also got few scoring chances but their attempts either lacked precision or blunt enough for the keepers.
Langol FC lost L Lalkhomang in the 55th minute for his repeated intentional handling (18' and 55') .
However, United Veteran were not able to capitalise on the local side to finish the game goalless.
In the penalty shoot-out (11 players each side), Th Hegin Singsit, K Biren, Singsit, Saikhomang Hangsing S Lokeshore scored for Langol FC while United Veterans, Kolkata also scored six goals through Sourav Chatterjee, Sovan Das, Satyajit, Aloke Dey, Sudipta Kumar Saha and Bijen Kumar Guha to tie the match at 6-6 calling for sudden death to decide the winners.
Saikhomang scored the much needed goal while Sourav Chatterjee of the Kolkata side missed his shot to hand the local side the 7-6 victory.
The last quarter final match saw, SHDSVA outwit FC Eimi, Game Village by 4-1 goals to book the semifinal berth.
Lamkholen and Ngangkhosat scored one goal each in the 7th and the 8th minute of the match to hand SHDSVA a 2-0 lead in the first half.
After the break it was Lamkholen again who hit his second goal in the 35th minute and extended the lead to 3-0.FC Eimi tried hard to return into the game and it was in the 40th minute that Jangminlen Guite pulled one goal back to make it 1-3.The Kangpokpi side also did not give up despite the 3-1 lead and in the process Ngangkhosat banged in his second goal in the 54th minute to convincingly wrap
up the game 4-1 .
Chajing FC will meet Lilong FC in the first semifinal match on May 17 while Langol FC will take on SHDSVA, Kangpokpi in the last semi-final match the same day.
