Imphal, December 10 2008:
THE MANIPUR Human Rights Commission and other civil human rights organizations based in the state also observed the International Human Rights Day in commemoration of the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations.
MHRC observed the day at its conference hall, Lamphel today.
In connection with the observation of the day a photo exhibition on theme "Crime against humanity" which will continue till December 13 organized by the Threaten Indigenous People's Society (TIPS) was also opened today at the Manipur Central Youth Club ground at Keishampat junction.
An indigenous calendar was also released on the occasion.
The Manipur People Party also organized a function on the occasion in which its president Dr Chandramani demanded implementation of the recommendation of Jeevan Reddy report on AFSPA.
The MHRC organized a function at JN Dance Academy hall to mark the 60th years of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Day.
Speaking at the function as chief guest, former forest minister, Prof Gangumei Kamei said the state should take up measure to protect the rights of the people as it also violated the rights by providing require infrastructures for the rights commission which was come into being in 1998 .
Dr Arambam Lokendro giving his presidential address to the gathering said, "Now, there is a need to look at the steps that are likely to take up by the India towards the separatists warring for independent nation in the north east after the terrorists attack at the financial capital of the country, Mumbai" .
